Angels in our back yard
I have a story that I think is worthy of sharing.
They are your average youngsters, just graduated from their glorified ‘teenhood’, but blessed with big hearts.
At a shopping mall, they decided to donate some of their allowance to the needy (in this case we mean hard core poor). They stumbled upon 2 individuals. One was in a pitiful state, as he sustained bodily injuries, which hinders his mobility. The next individual appeared to be devoid of bodily injuries. Both were beggars at one of the country’s top shopping malls. Both were not of the same ethnicity. However, the injuriless person shared the same ethnicity with the girls.
Not having much funds to spare (they had to save some for public transport -to get home), they deliberated.
One young girl had RM 5 to donate. She couldn’t split the RM 5 bill. While her other friends chose whom they wanted to donate to, she had to really think hard.
How she made her decision:
The beggars were Chinese and Malay respectively.
The Chinese guy’s feet were deformed which prevents him from moving, and thus prevents him from getting any job what more a proper job.
The Malay guy appeared to have no physical injuries, and he appears to be able to move. Even though he is Malay (i’m not sure whether he is blind/not), he is in a better position to obtain a job than the Chinese dude.
So, she donated the RM 5 to the person who needed the money the most. The chinese dude. She donated with a smile as she was happy to help even if the amount was not in thousands or millions.
What struck me the most was that there was no racial motivation at all. Some times humans are prone to be partial towards their ethnic community. The amazing thing about the younger generation is, they are color blind. They help anybody that deserves to be helped.
Bravo.
I hope the rest of us can emulate such a practice. I’m sure we already have ; )
